BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) - The race for Plaquemines Parish president ended when Amos Cormier III defeated Kirk Lepine in a runoff this Saturday.
Cormier III won with 57% of the vote..
Lepine received 31 percent of the vote to Cormier's 26 percent in the primary.
Lepine is a parish councilman and Cormier is a local attorney. His father died unexpectedly in June.
Both men are Republicans from Belle Chasse.
Cormier III will serve the remaining two years of the term of the late Amos Cormier Jr., who took office in January 2015.
Edward Theriot, the parish's director of administration, has served as interim parish president.
