NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Tonight will be quite cold with freezes in most locations except around the Tidal Lakes and immediate coast. The North Shore will see lows in the mid to upper 20s. A long duration hard freeze is not anticipated and pipe precautions will not be required.
South of the lake lows will be in the mid to upper 30s in the metro area to around freezing in the River Parishes and Bayou Country.
The weekend will begin with lots of sunshine, but clouds will thicken on Sunday. At the same time, temperatures will warm from highs in the 50s Saturday to the 60s on Sunday.
Next week's forecast is highly uncertain. It looks cloudy with occasional bouts of showers moving across the area. The week starts very mild with highs exceeding 70 degrees at times. Another strong cold front will approach the region by the middle of next week, but it's unclear how much of the cold air will reach us.
As of now, there is the possibility of very cold air by Thursday and Friday. Again, a lot of this will be subject to change.
