METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

Causeway officials say that a search is underway for a motorcyclist who went into Lake Pontchartrain Saturday night.

The Coast Guard says they are searching for a 35-year-old African-American male.

According to Causeway Police, the motorcyclist was riding Northbound on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway around 11:30 p.m. when he crashed into the back of an SUV. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and went into the lake.

The accident caused officials to shut down the Causeway northbound lanes. They were reopened just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Causeway Police and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office are currently assisting in the search.
