NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - For the second consecutive week Drew Brees threw three interceptions, and zero touchdowns. Brees' shortcomings, and the lack of a running game, contributed to a 16-11 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The loss means the Saints (5-8) are on the path to miss the playoffs for the third year in a row.
Brees finished the contest going 25-of-41 passing, for 257 yards. Through the first quarter he was 2 of 3 passing for 11 yards. With zero rushing yards in the first frame, the 11 yards of total offense gave the Saints their lowest output in a quarter since 2006.
The Bucs cashed in on the first and only touchdown of the contest thanks in large part to Saints defensive penalties. Doug Martin's 1-yard touchdown run gave the Bucs a 10-0 advantage.
The Saints points came off three Will Lutz field goals from 22, 34 and 42 yards, and a safety.
