NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A retired New Orleans police captain may file a defamation suit against the attorney for the man convicted of killing former New Orleans Saints star Will Smith, according to our partners at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.
Retired New Orleans Police Captain, Billy Ceravolo was accused of tampering with evidence at the crime scene on the night Smith was shot to death by Cardell Hayes.
Both before and during the trial Hayes' attorney John Fuller suggested that Ceravolo removed evidence from the crime scene just after Smith was killed.
Ceravolo's lawyer said her client is pleased the jury did not believe the allegations against her client.
"We're very relieved that the jury did not believe the allegations against my client," said Tanya Picou Faia, Ceravolo's attorney. "We're very grateful they did not believe the allegations against my client."
