The Thibodaux Police Department says that a suspected vehicle burglar was arrested after he was spotted by a homeowner while relieving himself.

According to investigators, 22-year-old Olen Smith went to three different streets between November 6 and November 8 where he burglarized eleven vehicles.

Police say he broke into vehicles on Palm Place, Hale Drive and Plater Court and stole items ranging from sunglasses to a pair of Apple earphones. At one point while burglarizing vehicles on Hale Dr., Smith also stole a kid’s bicycle and left the one he was originally riding on at the scene.

A homeowner on Plater Dr. called police after spotting Smith behind his vehicles. After realizing he had been spotted, Smith fled the scene. Police apprehended Smith shortly after.

Police says that Smith admitted to them that when he was spotted in the driveway by the homeowner, he was trying to relieve himself.

Smith was arrested on November 8 and charged with criminal trespassing and four counts of vehicle burglary at the time of his arrest. Smith was later re-arrested on December 12th and charged with seven additional charges of vehicle burglary and one count of theft.

He is currently being held on $52,000 bond.
