NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - At 5-8, any realistic chance the Saints had at making the playoffs is now gone. For the third year in a row, that reality is hard to swallow.
"It's really hard," safety Jairus Byrd said. "It's all you play this game for, at the end of the day, is to win a championship to not be able to do that or even have a chance to do that is hard."
But even with no postseason, it's important for the Saints to finish out the season with effort and intensity. In fact, Drew Brees believes struggles now could lead to a more prosperous future. As he put, it's happened before here in New Orleans.
"I would equate it to '07, '08," Brees said. "We had that stretch where we come off the success of 06' maybe the unexpected success of 06', the NFC championship game post-Katrina all that and then 07', 08' disappointing missed the playoffs. Again non-winning seasons and then you come out in 09' and just click. I feel like we are close, so close to that ticking point."
