LaPlace woman killed in two-car crash on US 61

RESERVE, LA (WVUE) - A LaPlace woman was killed and two men were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-car accident on U.S. 61 in Reserve.

Around 5:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to the report of an accident near the intersection of U.S. 61 and La. 53.

Danielle Georgel, 24, of Laplace was killed when the car she was riding in collided with a pickup truck driven by a Gonzalez man.

According to state police, the preliminary investigation showed that Georgel was the front passenger seat of a 2002 Ford Taurus, driven by Tylas Bailey, 24, Vacherie.

Bailey was in the right lane heading south on U.S. 61 approaching LA 53.

A 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Christian Moses, 17, of Gonzales was heading north on U.S. 61 and made a left turn onto La 53.

As Moses was crossing the southbound lanes, Bailey hit the passenger side of the pickup.

Georgel was taken to River Parishes Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Bailey was airlifted to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Moses suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Georgel and Bailey were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Moses was wearing a seat belt.

Neither driver is suspected of being impaired, but blood samples were taken for toxicology tests.

The accident remains under investigation and criminal charges are pending.
