HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) - Tangipahoa Sheriff Daniel Edwards will make a statement to the media at 3 p.m. on Friday. It is unclear what the statement is about.
However, FBI agents spent much of Thursday taking material from the Hammond Police Department and the Tangipahoa Sheriff's Office, saying only that they were carrying out "court-ordered" actions.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Danny Edwards has not addressed the situation.
The raid began in the morning and continued throughout the afternoon. FBI agents said they were working in partnership with the DEA's Office of Professional Responsibility. He said the searches were conducted with approval from the court.
"Those actions are continuing and ongoing, with many more investigative actions to take place," said FBI New Orleans Special Agent in Charge Jeff Sallet.
The investigation appears to stem from the actions of a special drug task force. Hammond resident residents were surprised to be turned away when they tried to conduct business at the offices.
"Yeah, I don't expect to be finding the FBI sitting in the driveway," said Ronnie Morales, of Hammond.
The operation is large-scale and the FBI has indicated there will be more raids.
