Man arrested for attacking ex-girlfriend with screwdriver

THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Thibodaux police arrested a man after he attacked his ex-girlfriend with a screwdriver. The incident occurred Sunday around 3:05 a.m. in the 1000 block of People Street.

Police say that on Saturday, the victim got into an argument with the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Kerry Howard, whom she was in a relationship with, because the victim had a friend over to visit. Both Howard and the victim continued to argue throughout the day and later that night, both agreed that Howard should move out.

Just after 3 a.m. Sunday, Howard woke the victim and told her to get out of bed. The victim did not want to wake her child so she complied. Both she and Howard went into another room where Howard began stabbing her in the arm and shoulder with a screwdriver. The victim was able to get away and contact authorities.

Officers arrived on scene and quickly took Howard into custody. The victim received treatment at a nearby hospital.

Howard was booked in the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he is being held on a $55,000 bond.
