THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) -

Police arrested two people accused of stealing a vehicle. The victim told investigators that on Saturday, Dec. 17, he went inside a friend’s house on Legarde Street, leaving his 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass unlocked and running. When he returned about 30 minutes later the vehicle was gone.

Five hours later, officers spotted the stolen vehicle on Audubon Avenue, and conducted a traffic stop. They found Todd Chenier and Tia Bennett inside. Police say the pair had marijuana and a gun. They say Chenier claimed he borrowed the vehicle from the victim. He said he paid the victim, and the two agreed he would drive to New Orleans.

Chenier, 24, was booked with theft of a motor vehicle, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, and illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.

Bennett, 19, was booked with illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. She was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
