NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The Orleans Parish coroner has released the name of a man who was killed Saturday in a double shooting in Algiers.

Corner Jeffrey Rouse identified the deceased victim as 35-year-old Russell Whittington. The incident occurred in the 3100 block of Somerset Drive.

Police said Whittington was shot multiple times and pronounced dead. The other victim, identified as a black man in his late 50s, was shot at least once and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators learned that both men were in front of a home when an unknown person drove up and opened fire before driving away. Detectives are looking for any nearby surveillance cameras that may have captured video that could assist police in identifying the person(s) responsible. Police are also working to determine the relationship between the two victims.

The investigation into the incident continues. If you have any information that could help police with this case, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
