MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

The Mandeville Police Department says that a Lake Charles man was arrested after he tried to kill his ex-wife early Saturday morning.

Police say the suspect, 37-year-old Adrian Daigle, arrived at his ex-wife’s home in the 700 block of Heavens Drive just after 12:30 a.m. to visit her.

The victim told police that several family members were at the home visiting her at the time of the incident because her current husband recently passed away.

Daigle followed the victim into her bedroom where he pushed her down on the bed and grabbed her around the throat. The victim says that she felt that her larynx was crushed making it difficult to breathe and call for help. Daigle then grabbed a cord from a box fan and wrapped it around her neck in an attempt to strangle her. Relatives who heard the struggle entered the room and intervened.

Daigle stole the victim’s computer server before fleeing the home in a vehicle that the victim borrowed from a friend.

Officers later located the vehicle abandoned in a nearby parking lot.

After a brief search, Daigle was located and arrested without incident.

Daigle has been booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail where he has been charged with attempted second degree murder and theft.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries to her neck. She is expected to make a full recovery.
