ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

A prisoner who escaped custody in St. Bernard Parish has been located and arrested in Slidell. The inmate, identified as 18-year-old Shawn Landry of Bogalusa, escaped custody Saturday night around 8:30 p.m.

According to police, Landry was serving a one year prison sentence for a possession of a stolen vehicle and was classified as a trustee prisoner. He was taking garbage outside the prison when he ran away from a corrections officer. Landry later stole a truck in Chalmette and abandoned the vehicle in Slidell Sunday morning. Police believe that prior to stealing the truck, Landry burglarized a nearby car.

The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Department was notified Sunday night that Landry was located in Slidell and taken into custody by St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Deputies.
