(WVUE) -

UNO men's basketball entered Thursday night hoping to beat Southeastern and clinch a share of the Southland Conference regular season title.

The Privateers were upset by the Lions but still had cause to celebrate thanks to second-place Stephen F. Austin losing. A win Saturday at Nicholls and Mark Slessinger's team will be the outright champions.

Southeastern's second half comeback was powered by Helen Cox alumnus Marlain Veal's 23 points, which led all scorers. Jay Ladner's squad completed the upset by outscoring UNO 19-7 in the closing minutes.

The Privateers tip off at 1 PM Saturday in Thibodaux while Southeastern's regular season is complete. The Southland Conference tournament begins Friday, March 10th.
