Parolee arrested for residential burglary

KENNER, LA (WVUE) - On Thursday, March 2, 2017, the Kenner Police Department arrested Charlton Holmes, 39, of 2620 Tupelo Street, in Kenner.  Holmes was charged with the crime of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

On Thursday, March 2, 2017, at approximately 10:12 a.m., the Kenner Police Department received a call reporting that a male subject on a blue bike, wearing a green shirt, and blue hat had just burglarized an occupied residence, in the 2600 block of Panama Street, in Kenner.   The male subject had knocked on the door of a residence.  After the male subject received no response, he then pried the front door open and entered the residence.  Once inside, the male, later identified by police as Charlton Holmes removed a radio, speakers, and an a/c power adapter from within.  While burglarizing the residence, Holmes was seen by an eleven-year-old juvenile who was home inside the residence from school due to Mardi Gras, at which time he fled.

KPD Officers canvassing the area eventually discovered Holmes and say he was hiding inside a residence in the 2600 block of Tupelo Street, in Kenner, where he abandoned a bicycle matching the description provided.   Holmes was found  hiding in a locked bathroom.  Upon detaining Holmes, he was found to be in possession of property taken from the residential burglary on Panama Street.

It should be noted at the time Holmes was arrested, he was on parole until December 21, 2017, for the crimes of simple burglary (2-counts/convicted 2/18/2016).  In addition to his parole status, Holmes has prior felony convictions for the crimes of simple robbery (8/18/1997), simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling (8/14/2012), resisting an officer (5/13/2014), and possession of cocaine (4/7/2015).
At the time of this press release Charlton Holmes remains in custody, no bond has been set relative to the burglary charge.  In addition, Holmes was also booked on a probation and parole violation detainer, which carries no bond.
