NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The New Orleans Police Department says that one of their recruits has been placed on emergency suspension following his arrest Saturday night.

According to officials, 29-year-old NOPD Recruit Justin Hammonds was arrested by Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Deputies investigating a domestic violence incident.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Deputies received an anonymous call stating that a woman was screaming for help in the 2000 block of Oak Creek Road in unincorporated Harahan.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the victim, a 28-year-old female, told them that her husband, Hammonds, was angry and hit her several times inside of their apartment.

According to the deputies, when they attempted to locate Hammonds, he fled the apartment by climbing out of a window.

When Hammonds returned to the apartment, he was arrested and booked with one count of domestic abuse battery.

The NOPD Public Integrity Bureau immediately placed Hammonds on Emergency Suspension following his arrest.

The PIB’s investigation is on-going.
