(WVUE) - Tulane baseball dropped the series finale to West Virginia, 18-5, Sunday afternoon at Turchin Stadium.
The Green Wave (3-8) clinched the series with 9-8 and 6-0 wins Friday and Saturday, respectively, but on Sunday the Mountaineers (7-4) scored 18 runs on 20 hits to take the third game.
"We were chasing four (runs) right out of the gate, but we answered back with a big home run. But every time we scored, they scored," Tulane head coach Travis Jewett said. "It got to the point where it just eventually got out of control. You have to give West Virginia a lot of credit. They had their backs against the wall, and we had a chance to complete the series, but they were obviously against that."
The Green Wave will host Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday.
