Chet Niehaus went 4-for-4 with an RBI, Gavin Wehby drove in two and the Nicholls State pitching staff put together an outstanding effort as the Colonels earned a series sweep against Brown University with a 3-1 victory Sunday.

The win gives Nicholls (7-4) its third-consecutive victory as the Colonels head into conference play next weekend at Northwestern State. Brown, out of the Ivy League, fell to 0-3 on the season.

Mike Hanchar (2-0) made the start for the Colonels and pitched 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and an unearned run.

Nicholls took the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by Wehby. Ethan Valdez and Niehaus singled in the inning, and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases. Wehby sent a fly ball deep to left field, allowing Valdez to score on the play.
