HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) -

A Hammond man was shot early Tuesday in what Hammond Police believe may be revenge for a fatal shooting that happened in December.

Around 1 a.m., Hammond police responded to a call reporting shots fired near the intersection of East David Drive and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

When police arrived, they found Demarkius Jackson, 27, of Hammond, inside a vehicle suffering from several gunshot wounds.

He was taken to North Oaks Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

Police say Jackson was involved in a shooting incident on December 29, 2016 when he shot and killed Martin Baker, 24, of Hammond, during an argument.

Detectives think this shooting may be in retaliation for Baker’s killing. The shooting was deemed justifiable and Jackson was cleared of all charges.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Detective Kelvin James at 985-277-5755 or james_k@hammond.org with the Hammond Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
