NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Representative Cedric Richmond wants the White House to show proof of the president's claim former president Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower.
Richmond joined other democrats in Congress today, sending Acting Deputy Attorney General Dana J. Boente a letter. The letter asks the White House to address the accuracy of assertions accusing President Obama of wiretapping phones prior to the presidential election.
"We cannot allow President Trump's reckless tweets to erode the laws and norms that strengthen our democracy," said Rep. Richmond. "The American people need and deserve to know what the facts are in order to better understand what is true and draw their own conclusions. The White House has a responsibility to provide this information to bring clarity to this incredibly important issue."
