KENNER, LA (WVUE) -

Kenner police are investigating an incident where accused shoplifters injure an officer prior to leading police on a chase. The incident occurred Sunday around 7 p.m.

Police say that an officer working detail at the WalMart on Veterans Boulevard in Kenner was notified of a shoplifting incident at the store. When confronting the accused shoplifters, one of them struck the officer in the mouth before fleeing to a car in the parking lot. Additional officers pursued the male and female as they led police on a chase east on Veterans before heading south on David Drive then west bound on West Napoleon.

Shortly afterward, police stopped the vehicle on West Napoleon near the intersection of Michigan Avenue. The subjects were taken into custody.

Police continue to investigate the incident. We will provide more information as soon as it becomes available.
