(WVUE) - With 16 games left in the season entering Tuesday night, the Pelicans trailed the Nuggets for the eighth spot in the Western Conference playoffs by 5.5 games, and the Blazers are right on Denver's tail. But New Orleans' 100-77 victory provided a glimmer of potential for the postseason push.
Anthony Davis left the game in the first half with an ankle injury but eventually returned to finish with 15 points in 29 minutes of action. In his temporary absence, DeMarcus Cousins took over and sparked a 50-34 lead at the half by contributing in every aspect of the game, including steals, blocks, assists and a team-high 22 points.
The win pushes the Pelicans to 5 games back of the final playoff spot but the back-to-back wins are the first in over a month. The 23-point margin of victory is the largest of the season. Up next is a trip to Miami Wednesday night before returning home for a three-game stretch.
