Pelicans fall flat in Miami after early technical foul from Cousins

(WVUE) - The Pelicans arrived in Miami Wednesday after a Tuesday night triumph over the Portland Trail Blazers but the Heat quickly doused any dreams of a smooth ride to a three-game win streak for the visitors as Miami topped New Orleans 120-112.

Trailing 20-14 in the first quarter, DeMarcus Cousins shoved Willie Reed's arm out of the way on an inbound play and received a technical foul. If and when Cousins receives another technical foul, he will be suspended for the following game since he has surpassed the league's technical foul accumulation point.

The Pelicans trailed by as much as 14 points in the first half, but trimmed the lead to two, heading into the break. They led by single digits multiple times in the third and fourth quarter but after tying the game 102-102, Miami outscored Alvin Gentry's squad 18-10 down the stretch to seal the win.

Anthony Davis led the team with 27 points, thanks to 13-of-18 free throw shooting and despite making just seven of his 17 free throw attempts. E'Twaun Moore and Dante Cunningham were the only Pelicans with greater than 50% shooting on more than three attempts.

Sitting at 27-41, New Orleans will stay home for three games starting with the Rockets Friday night at 7 PM.
