One dead after racing vehicles flip in New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

One person died after two vehicles crashed as they were racing down Hayne Boulevard in New Orleans East.

According to initial New Orleans Police Department reports, the accident happened near the intersection of Hayne Boulevard and Trapier Avenue around 4:20 a.m.

Police responded to the accident in the 9500 block of Hayne Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they found a silver Toyota 4-Runner on its roof, a badly damaged white Chevrolet Tahoe and approximately 500 feet of debris along the roadway.

One man was found inside the Toyota and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the two vehicles were racing eastbound along Hayne when they bumped at the intersection of Trapier Avenue and Hayne.

Both drivers lost control and the Toyota crashed into a store in the 9500 block and flipped over.

The Tahoe flipped several times, littering the roadway with debris.

After the accident several people were from both vehicles were seen fleeing the accident scene.

The Tahoe was reported stolen from Downman Road around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
