NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Tollette "Tonka" George never made it to his 24th birthday party. The former Edna Karr and Alcorn State football standout was shot and killed last June in a murder that remains unsolved. His presence was unmistakable at a birthday party held in his honor in Algiers Saturday. Family and friends attending, wore shirts with a photo of George during his football playing days.

George had just graduated from Alcorn State when he was gunned down in this West Bank neighborhood, mere blocks from this front yard. His uncle, Brannon Getridge heard the gunfire.

"I was sitting in the house, it was more like a fireworks show it was like boom boom boom boom," Getridge said. "A whole bunch of shots."

Police have not yet made any arrests in the case. The circumstances surrounding the shooting still aren't clear. The lack of answers is frustrating for the family seeking to keep a spotlight on the case.

"It's turned into like a cold case with the NOPD. Because we haven't heard anything from them. We just wanna let everyone know we still miss him," Getridge says.

Anyone with information on "Tonka" George's death last June on the West Bank is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
