NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Family members identify two of the three people killed in a triple homicide in New Orleans East, Saturday night.
According to our Partners at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune, relatives identified the deceased woman as 57-year old Catherine Caufield and one of the deceased men as 58-year-old Joseph Davis. As of Sunday night, no identification on the third male victim has been released, but the NOPD described him as a 66 years old. Investigators say all of the victims were African Americans.
New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison says officers got the call shortly before 9 p.m. to the 6700 block of Brutus Street. A unidentified person says when he returned to the house he found all three of the victims fatally shot in the kitchen.
"The individuals were most likely in the kitchen at the same time together," Harrison said. "At some point someone entered the home. It appears that at this time its not forced entry."
The killing comes in what has been a bloody few weeks for NOPD detectives. Earlier this month a mother and her two sons were found gunned down in their Gentilly home. Harrison says its another sign of the culture of violence in the city and how people choose to resolve conflicts.
"Certainly there is responsibility on people valuing human life and dealing with their conflicts in a better way other than to use violence," added Harrison.
Their hope now is that someone will come forward with information to help them find the killer. At least one nearby resident hopes that will be the case too.
"This killing needs to stop. This killing need to stop. This is everyday in New Orleans," says Monique Ellzey.
