NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A state lawmaker wants to give you a permanent sales tax holiday on some purchases.

According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, State Senator J.P. Morrell has filed a bill, which calls for a state sales tax ban on disposable diapers and feminine hygiene products. Morrell says such items "aren't optional." He argues they should not be taxed.

If the bill passes during April's legislative session, the issue would go to voters in the fall. If voters approve, the new sales tax rule would take effect in January of 2018.
