FOLSOM, LA (WVUE) - While the world waits for the birth of a much-anticipated giraffe baby in New York, a Louisiana giraffe quietly beat April to it.
The Global Wildlife Center welcomed Nala, the center's first reticulated giraffe baby of the year.
First-time mother Sara gave birth to Nala Sunday evening.
In a Facebook post announcing the new arrival, park officials say Sara has graciously accepted her new responsibility and Nala is getting to know her new surroundings.
Nala is the latest addition to the free-roaming herd of now 14 reticulated giraffes at the north shore park.
