NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man who says he was driving for Uber shot and wounded one of two men who allegedly tried to carjack him at gunpoint, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
The driver told police that two men got into his Uber after he let out another passenger and forced him to drive them near Bienville and N. Telemachus Street. Police say when the suspects forced the driver out of the car, the driver fired at them, striking one of them.
The two men fled. No arrests have been made.
Uber says it can't confirm that the driving was working for them. The company did say that it has the following policy:
"Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a safe and reliable ride. That's why Uber prohibits riders and drivers from carrying firearms of any kind in a vehicle while using our app.*
"Anyone who violates this policy may lose access to Uber."
