NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Witnesses helped New Orleans Police track down the suspect in a French Quarter hit and run.

Police say a car driven by Kirk Alexander struck and injured a pedestrian crossing the street at the intersection of Chartres Street and Conti Street around 11 a.m. Friday.

Witnesses tried to stop Alexander who fled the scene down Chartres St. toward St. Louis Street.

They managed to follow him to Dauphine Street and St. Louis Street where Louisiana State Police and NOPD detectives caught him without incident.

Investigators booked Alexander with hit and run, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a license.

The pedestrian who was hit suffered minor injuries.
