NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left a 13-year-old girl dead.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday on LA 25 at the intersection of LA 38 in Franklinton.
State Police say an investigation revealed that a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 47-year-old Melinda Felker Collette of Kentwood was traveling eastbound on LA 38 when she approached a flashing red signal at the intersection of LA 38 and LA 25. Collette failed to stop at the light and crashed into the passenger's side of a 2005 GMC Sierra driven by 21-year-old Reagan Ballard McGee of McComb, Mississippi.
A passenger in McGee's vehicle, 13-year-old Madison Nicholson of McComb, Mississippi suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner's Office.
McGee, and Collette were both taken to North Oaks Health Center where they were treated for moderate injuries. Another juvenile in McGee's vehicle was also injured in the crash and was treated for moderate injuries.
Intoxication is not believed to have played a part in the crash but blood samples were taken from both drivers. The samples will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for testing.
