(WVUE) - Riveting cell phone video captures a drunk driver heading the wrong way on the Causeway over the weekend.
Causeway General Manager Carleton Defrechou says Elena Svob, 23, was intoxicated, heading southbound in the northbound lanes of the Causeway around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
Another driver captured the scene on his cell phone.
According to initial police reports, Causeway police initially tried to stop Svob at mile marker 22, but she kept going.
Louisiana State Police then laid down spike strips. Svob blew out three of her four tires as she drove over the strips.
Svob was finally stopped just before the drawbridge at mile marker 16 without incident.
Causeway Police say Svob failed a field sobriety test.
She was released Monday afternoon after posting bond. She faces charges that include driving with an expired license plate, aggravated obstruction of a highway, and driving under the influence.
