North Shore family grieves loss of toddler

Ex-DA in sex-for-legal-help scheme now facing civil suit

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A North Shore family grieves the loss of their 17-month-old daughter. A truck hit the toddler just after 3:30  p.m. Monday on East Forrest Drive near Slidell.

Kirara Kirsh would just like to see her niece, Koreyanna, smile again.

"I would tell her the whole family loves her, we love her, I love her, just to see her smile again would be awesome," said Kirsh. "She was a fun-loving little baby, she was a quick learner."

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office says the tragic accident is under investigation. Deputies identify the driver as Shae Fitzgerald, 21. We're told he is not facing any charges at this time.

"The young man was driving a large box-style truck. Speed is not a contributing factor, nor is reckless driving. From what we understand, from multiple witnesses, is that he was driving down this road here behind me and at some point in time the toddler entered the roadway and went underneath the truck," said Capt. Daniel Suzeneau with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.

And as her family tries to make sense of the tragedy, they ask for prayers.

"Just for everybody to pray for us and pray for the mother and the dad, my brother and his wife, and my mom," said Kirsh.

The Sheriff's Office says the driver was extremely shaken by the accident. He drove a block away because the scene was so chaotic but immediately called police to let them know where he was. We're told the child was visiting her grandmother's home at the time of the accident.
