LaPlace boy in critical condition after ATV accident injury

LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) -

An 8-year-old LaPlace boy remains in critical condition at a New Orleans hospital after he was injured Sunday in an ATV accident.

On Sunday, around 2 p.m., St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2000 block of Lafitte Drive in LaPlace for a report of an ATV crash.

Then they arrived, deputies learned Kyron Howard, 25, was driving a Honda ATV on the canal bank behind the 2000 block of Lafitte Drive.

An 8-year-old boy was sitting in front of Howard on the ATV when he lost control of the ATV and crashed into a fence.

The ATV then flipped over several times. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for several injuries.

The boy was then airlifted to a New Orleans hospital where his condition remains critical.

Howard was also taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for several injuries and is stable condition. 

A blood sample was obtained from Howard, and test results are pending from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

The crash remains under investigation.
