Fugitive leads St. Tammany deputies on high-speed chase

MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

A Tangipahoa Parish fugitive led St. Tammany deputies on a high-speed chase through Mandeville before crashing a stolen car and fleeing into the woods.

According to St. Tammany Parish Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies patrolling Highway 59 in Mandeville tried to stop a blue Honda Civic, which had a stolen license plate.

The vehicle, which was driven by 37-year-old, Curtis Savoie of Loranger, fled from deputies as they attempted a traffic stop for the stolen license plate.

Savoie, who was wanted out of Tangipahoa Parish for domestic violence by strangulation, led deputies on a chase through Mandeville where he attempted to crash head-on with several police vehicles during the chase.

Several law enforcement agencies assisted in the pursuit, which resulted in Savoie crashing in the 1700 block of West Causeway Approach.

Savoie fled into the woods, while his passenger, 33-year-old, Nanci Barnes of Tickfaw was taken into custody. Savoie was later tracked and caught by the K-9 unit.

Savoie fled police because of the outstanding warrant, two stolen firearms, methamphetamine, and marijuana inside of the vehicle.

Both Savoie and Barnes were booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on several charges.

During the booking process, deputies found more methamphetamine hidden in Barnes’ bra.

Savoie was booked with:

  • Illegal Carrying of Weapons in Presence of CDS
  • Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway of Commerce
  • Aggravated Flight from an Officer
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS Schedule II
  • Possession of CDS Schedule III
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Fugitive

Barnes was booked with:

  • Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms (x2)
  • Illegal Carrying of Weapons in Presence of CDS
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS Schedule II
  • Possession of CDS Schedule III
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Introduction of Contraband into a Correctional
