BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Gov. John Bel Edwards released a statement Thursday regarding the selection of a contractor for the Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program.

IEM has been selected to manage the state’s $1.3 billion Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program, it was announced Friday. The program is designed to help homeowners rebuild after historic floods in March and August of 2016.

Interested subcontractors can contact IEM directly to inquire about rendering their services.

"It was our goal to hire a contractor that would provide quality work with rigorous oversight at the most cost savings for the people of Louisiana," Edwards said in a written release. "IEM has made that commitment to the state, and I am personally going to hold them to it. This is a difficult process, and sometimes takes longer than anyone, including me, would like, but I do believe it’s important for us to get this right."

The first step for homeowners interested in participating in the program is to complete a survey. Those without internet access can complete the survey over the phone by calling 866-735-2001. The call center is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
