NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

It was hours before lunchtime and police presence was thick at the popular Wilkinson Family Pharmacy on Paris Road in Chalmette.

"Very shocking, I'm speechless. I'm literally shaking,” said longtime customer Sarah Guedimin, who showed up at the business but was greeted by law enforcement in the parking lot.

"They told me I couldn't get (medicine) and they don't know when I'll be able to get it,” said Linda Morales, another customer.

Later in the afternoon, the business reopened according to residents. One said he was told that the pharmacy was not filling prescriptions at the time but to check back Thursday.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency tells FOX 8 News that federal agents were executing seizure warrants at the pharmacy and that it is an investigation related to prescription drugs. DEA said St. Bernard deputies were on the scene as part of normal protocol because the agency is involved in a federal-local task force.

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office refused to comment. But dismayed customers had plenty to say.

"I'm on a lot of medication, bad health, and this man would go out the world to help anybody. He is a wonderful, wonderful human being, caring, giving, a people person, well-mannered. I knew his dad when he passed away. I know his mother, his little girl, all his co-workers,” said Guedimin.

She showed up at the pharmacy to get a shot.

"Vitamin B-12 shot. I come every day and he gives me the injection. He's like a son to me,” she said.

The DEA spokeswoman would not say who was the target of the probe, saying the indictments are under seal.

"I'm in so much shock, I'm dumbfounded,” said Guedimin.

"I never thought something like this would happen down here, but you don't know what's going on,” said Morales.

"Very shocking,” Guedimin said.

The Secretary of State’s Office’s website Keith D. Wilkinson is the registered agent and officer of the pharmacy, but it is not known whether he is part of the federal investigation.

Attempts to reach Wilkinson by phone were unsuccessful.
