NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A man said he watched a gunman who killed his neighbor and shot two others Tuesday night bolt down the street with a towel over his face.

Sharon Pulley, 60, died on the scene of the triple shooting in the 2200 block of Athis in the Milneburg neighborhood of New Orleans.

"I don't understand where the guy who did what he did came from. It's a tragedy," said the neighbor, who asked not to be identified. "He had a gun in his hand, a white towel over his face, running as fast as he can."

The neighbor rushed to Pulley's house just after 9 p.m. and found her body on the front porch and her 38-year-old niece begging for help just steps away.

"I just think he was trying to rob them," the neighbor said. "The niece said they had come from the movies, making plans to do something else, sitting in the car, and the guy approached them in the car and made them get of the car and tried to make them go in the house."

According to our partners at NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune, Pulley's sister also believes it was an armed robbery that escalated.

Pulley's sister told The Times-Picayune that Pulley was a retired school teacher, and she said when Pulley's fiance heard the armed robbery in progress and opened the door, the gunman opened fire.

"The niece said the [gunman] was shaking and his hands were shaking real bad," the neighbor said. "My wife kept beating on the door and [the fiance] finally came out with a bunch of gunshot wounds and he just fell on the porch. My other neighbor, she called the police, and the police came in about two or three minutes."

Emergency crews rushed Pulley's niece and fiance to the hospital.

"She was shot in the arm several times, a bullet grazed her chin. She was shot in her breast. The guy, he was shot next to his heart. I think around his liver and several other places," the neighbor said.

According to The Times-Picayune, the family said Pulley most recently worked at the Dryades YMCA and taught kindergarten.

New Orleans police have not named a suspect in the murder.
