NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

It's a done deal between the New Orleans Saints and Adrian Peterson.

The New Orleans Saints have signed running back Adrian Peterson to a two-year contract worth $7 million.

Peterson was a seven-time Pro Bowler with the Minnesota Vikings.

He'll serve as Mark Ingram's backup with the departure of Tim Hightower.

“We are excited to welcome Adrian to the New Orleans Saints,” said Head Coach Sean Payton. “It’s rare and unique to have the opportunity to add a Hall of Fame player to your roster. His career has been top-notch and speaks for itself. We think he will be an excellent fit in our locker room and in our offense. We look forward to the opportunity later this spring to work with him on the field along with the rest of our team.”

The signing comes after reports of both sides being close Monday. Peterson is coming off a knee injury last season.

Peterson, 6-1, 220, is a 10-year NFL veteran, who captured the NFL MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the year in 2012, is a four-time Associated Press first-team All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection. He was originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma.

The Saints will face the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football to open the 2017 season.

Marshon Lattimore Lattimore’s performance was one of the better things to come out of joint practices with the Chargers. He looked healthy and played aggressive. He mostly ran with the second team. I’ll be watching to see how he responds in his first game experience. Ryan Ramczyk Ditto for Ramczyk. Even with an injury that forced him to miss the preseason opener, he is the clear cut first option at left tackle. That wasn’t the case before camp began, which shows...
