KENNER, LA (WVUE) - Kenner is set to cut the ribbon on a brand new recreational skate park. Wentwood Skate Plaza is just one of a handful of skate parks in the metro area and the first one in Jefferson Parish.
The skate park is located at 200 W. Loyola Drive and will open to the public at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 28.
"This project represents our continued commitment to adapt to the needs of our community -- most importantly the kids in our community," 5th District Councilman Dominick Impastato said. "This state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in Jefferson Parish and provides a modern vehicle for recreation that is currently in great demand by the youth of today."
The 2,400-square foot facility was built by Gottfried Construction and includes steps and ramps for skaters. The City says it's designed to be a safe venue for the popular sport.
"I commend Councilman Impastato for this addition to his district," Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn said. "His continued support of recreation for his constituents is evident throughout the district, and particularly with this new skate park. The timely opening for our youth to have another recreational attraction with summer right around the corner is perfect for all Kenner residents to enjoy."
The skate park will open at 10 a.m. daily until dusk. Kenner officials say park hours may be adjusted as lighting is added in the future.
