Motorcyclist killed in Metairie collision

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - A Boutte man on a motorcycle was killed and two others were injured when he collided with a car early Friday morning in Metairie.

According to the Louisiana State Police, shortly after 1:30 a.m., troopers were called to the scene of a fatal accident at the intersection of Airline Highway at North Laurel Street.

The crash claimed the life of 38-year-old Jamal Walker, state police said.

Police said Walker was speeding on a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle south on Airline at a high rate of speed.

A 2015 Chrysler 200, driven by 20-year-old Jayedon Hobson pulled onto Airline Highway.

As Hobson made the turn, Walker hit the right side of the car.

Walker and the motorcycle traveled off the right side of the road.

Walker was later pronounced dead on the scene.

There were five occupants in Hobson's Chrysler. Two of which were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The other three passengers in the car were not injured.

Police said speed is a factor in the crash but that impairment is not suspected.

Hobson voluntarily submitted to a breath test. No detectable alcohol was found in his system.

Toxicology results for Walker are pending an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation.
