Jazz fest opens the gates

Quint Davis details the Cuban connection at Jazz Fest

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - With Jazz fest 2017 opening Friday, vendors were making their final preparations for the coming crowds.

The gumbo was cooking, the cracklins were frying, and the cochon de lait was getting ready to be delicious.

Crews have prepped for weeks, putting it all together. The stages and the booths, everything is built from the ground up by a crew that has been doing the job for years.

Friday, there area some big names headlining the stages.

Festers can catch Nas and The Soul Rebels on the Congo Square stage.

The Trey Anastasio band, the lead singer of Phish will be on the Gentilly stage.

The son of New Orleans makes a triumphant return from the Big Apple. Harry Connick, Jr. will hit the Acura stage Friday.

Saturday gets even better. Maroon Five, Usher and the Roots and The Alabama Shakes fronted by Brittany Howard.

To wrap up the first weekend, Pitbull hits Congo Square on Sunday, Lorde will never be royal on the Gentilly stage, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will close Sunday on the Acura stage.
