NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - You can't camp along a popular stretch of Lake Pontchartrain anymore.
According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, Mandeville City Council approved April 27 an ordinance designed to keep the city's entire portion of the lakefront off limits to overnight visitors.
Councilwoman Laure Sica says the vote came after complaints about people camping in the area.
The ordinance applies only to overnight campers. The common practice of hanging hammocks in trees along the lakefront is not prohibited, so long as people don't sleep in them overnight.
