NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Jarrius J.J. Robertson is being prepped for a liver transplant that could happen in just hours.
His dad Jordy Robertson says it's the happiest day of his life. Robertson said doctors called him around eight o'clock last night and told him to get Jarrius ready, a liver believed to be a match would be on the way to Ochsner. At first he couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"Are you serious?" Jordy said.
He told FOX 8's Nancy Parker he and Jarrius always have a bag packed and ready in the car. They headed from St. John Parish to the hospital.
FOX 8 aired, "A Day with J.J." Friday night, and Jordy says he and Jarrius were preparing to watch the broadcast at 9 p.m. when they got the call they'd been waiting for. The story chronicled J.J.'s condition and his deteriorating health. It highlighted the desperate need for a transplant.
Ochsner doctors are on the plane with the donor liver and bringing it to the hospital.
"I want to call this National J.J. Day!" said Robertson.
He says the day is also bittersweet. Jarrius had a transplant when he was one year old that did not respond the way doctors had hoped. Jordy is hoping this time is different. In the story on FOX 8, J.J.'s mom talked about the sadness of the loss of one child to save another. They say their hearts go out to donor families.
"I can't believe it," he said.
As for J.J and his mood?
"He's being J.J.!" said Robertson.
That's a good thing.
Watch the story of J.J.'s story again tonight on FOX 8.
