North Shore teen reported missing in Lake Pontchartrain

MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

Mandeville Police along with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Coast Guard are currently searching for teen that went missing in Lake Pontchartrain Saturday afternoon.

According to witnesses, a teenage boy jumped off of the fishing pier at Sunset Point in an attempt to retrieve his hat that was blown into the water.

Around 1:30 p.m., Mandeville Police and the St. Tammany Fire District IV responded to a call about a teenage male in distress.

When they arrived at the scene, they spotted an adult male clinging to an ice chest. He was later rescued by first responders. The man told police he attempted to rescue the teen but was unable to. Witnesses say the teen sunk beneath the surface and has not been seen since.

Search crews are currently in the lake searching for the teen.
