Sports Minute: Here is the latest Gulf Coast sports news from The Associated Press

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama coach Nick Saban totally gets where Mike Leach was coming from when the Washington State coach bluntly assessed his team as "a bunch of pathetic front-runners" after the Cougars lost 37-3 to California last week. The top-ranked Crimson Tide have mostly been very good front-runners under Saban. They'll have that role again Saturday as five-touchdown favorites against struggling Tennessee.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn wide receiver Kyle Davis has been dismissed from the team. Coach Gus Malzahn announced the decision Tuesday, saying only that Davis broke team rules. Davis was one of three players suspended from the Tigers' opener against Georgia Southern for undisclosed reasons. He didn't travel with the team to last weekend's LSU game.

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi quarterback Shea Patterson has mostly delivered on the high expectations he arrived on campus with about two years ago. The sophomore leads the Southeastern Conference with 2,143 yards passing, 17 touchdowns and just six interceptions this season while completing nearly 66 percent of his passes.

BRIMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - South Carolina is the preseason favorite to win its fifth straight Southeastern Conference women's basketball crown while Gamecocks center A'ja Wilson is projected to win her third consecutive SEC player of the year award. A panel of SEC and national media voted on the preseason rankings that the league released on Tuesday.
