LIST: Masses around New Orleans on All Saints Day

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -

All Saints Day, a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics around the world, is being observed Wednesday.

As is tradition in New Orleans, all Catholic Cemeteries will host special blessings of the graves on All Saints Day or All Souls’ Day to encourage prayer and remembrance for the deceased.

Special Masses will be celebrated at all Catholic Churches in the Archdiocese of New Orleans and several cemeteries will host Mass to observe the Holy Day.

Of special significance this year, New Orleans Archbishop Gregory Aymond will celebrate Mass at 10 am at St. Louis Cemetery No 3, 3421 Esplanade Ave. in New Orleans.

Music will be provided by St. Michael Special School Bell Choir who will also perform after the Mass. Following Mass, Archbishop Aymond will bless the graves in the cemetery and a new mosaic window created by students at St. Michael Special School in the Resurrection Mausoleum.

All Masses and Blessings below are scheduled for Wednesday, November 1, 2017:

St. Joseph Cemeteries 1 & 2, 2220 Washington Avenue, New Orleans

  • Blessing of the Graves will begin at 12:00 p.m.

St. Louis Cemetery No 1, 425 Basin Street, New Orleans

St. Louis Cemetery No 2, 300 N Claiborne Ave, New Orleans

  • Blessing of the graves in St. Louis Cemetery #1 and St. Louis Cemetery #2 will be at 2:00 p.m. and 2:15 respectively.

St. Louis Cemetery No 3, 3421 Esplanade Avenue, New Orleans

  • Mass at 10 am followed by Blessing of the Graves

St. Patrick Cemetery No 1 & 2, 5000 Canal Street, New Orleans

St. Patrick Cemetery No 3, 143 City Park Avenue, New Orleans (please note construction in the area; gates remain open for regular hours)

  • Blessing of the graves will begin at 11:00 a.m.    

St. Roch Cemeteries 1 & 2, 1725 St Roch Avenue, New Orleans

  • Mass will begin at 9:00 a.m. at St. Roch Cemetery #1 followed by the Blessing of the Graves in both cemeteries.

St. Vincent de Paul Cemeteries 1 & 2, 1950 Soniat Street, New Orleans

  • Blessing of the Graves will begin at 11:30 a.m.

St. Charles cemetery - Luling

  • Blessing of the Graves will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Holy Savior Mausoleum in St. Charles Cemetery.

St. Pius x Cemetery, Crown Pointe

  • Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church followed by the Blessing of the Graves at St. Pius X Mausoleum.

St. Gertrude Cemetery, Des Allemands

  • Blessing of the graves will begin after 10:00 a.m. Mass at Graham Schmill Cemetery, then to St. Gertrude Cemetery.

Mennonite Cemetery, Des Allemands

  • Blessing of the graves will be at 11:30 a.m.

St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan

  • Blessing of the Graves will begin at 4:00 p.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery.

St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Edgard

  • Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church followed by, Blessing of the Graves in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

St. Patrick Cemetery, Port Sulphur

  • Blessing of the graves at St. Jude Cemetery will begin at 9:00 a.m.
  • Mass will be at 12:00 noon in St. Patrick Church followed by a procession to St. Patrick Cemetery for the Blessing of the Graves.
  • Blessing of the graves at Our Lady of Good Harbor will begin at 3:00 p.m.

Our Lady of the Most Holy Cemetery, Taft 

  • Blessing of the graves in Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery will begin at noon (weather permitting).

Our Lady of Prompt Succor, Westwego

  • Mass will begin at 8:00 a.m. followed by Blessing of the graves in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery.

St. Mary’s and St. Bartholomew cemeteries, Algiers

  • Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary Church followed by the Blessing of the Graves

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Belle Chasse 

  • Blessing of the graves will begin at 9:30 a.m. after school mass.

St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, Toca

  • Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bernard Catholic Church followed by the Blessing of the Graves.

St. Thomas and St. Martin de Porres cemeteries, Pointe a la Haiche

Blessing of the Graves will begin after 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Martin De Porres Cemetery.

  • Mass will begin at 6:00 p.m. after the Blessing of the Graves at St. Thomas Catholic Church.

St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve

  • Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Blessing of the Graves. Gumbo will be served at St. Peter School cafeteria from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
