iPhone X hits shelves Friday

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - This is the day Apple lovers have been waiting for. The new iPhone X hits shelves Friday morning, but the device may be hard to find as lines form across the country. That includes the New Orleans area.

The new phone goes on sale at 8 a.m. Dozens of people waited in line overnight at Lakeside Mall in Metairie for their chance get to buy one.

Preorders of the device started last week and sold out within minutes. If you try to order one now, you would be waiting 5-to-6 weeks to get your hands on one.

The success of the iPhone helped turn Apple into the world's largest and most valuable company. This summer, they became the first company to he valued at over $700 billion dollars.

Apple is calling the iPhone X the future on the smart phone and the company has changed everything about it, from the design to the cameras.

In fact, that front facing camera can be used for more than just selfies, you can now unlock your phone with your face.

And the new design has glass on the front and the back, but Apple is calling it the strongest glass ever in a smart phone, which is good because customers are going to want to hold on to these devices a little tighter.

The starting price of the iPhone X is $1,000, but carriers like AT&T offer those installment plans and trade in deals to make the devices a little bit more affordable.
