Zurik: State Police timesheet questions reach beyond LACE

When we started our undercover investigation, we focused on the LACE program, an overtime detail that allows troopers to write tickets for parish governments and make extra money. But we quickly realized questions about potential payroll fraud extended to regular State Police shifts, funded by every taxpayer in Louisiana.

Four state troopers were paid a premium of your money, and our evidence suggests they did not deserve it. Three of the four are among the highest-paid employees in Louisiana. NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

The East Baton Rouge Parish district attorney tells FOX 8 that his office is investigating the four state troopers who are the subjects of our State of Unrest investigation.

DA Hillar Moore says his office will do the investigation with State Police and, if any criminal violations are found, his office will handle the prosecution. State Police are based in Baton Rouge, and the troopers in question filed their timesheets there.

Three state troopers made more than $200,000 last year. Now all three are under criminal investigation and suspended, following our months-long undercover surveillance investigation.

We showed you Wednesday night undercover surveillance of the highest-paid law enforcer in the state, Trooper Daryl Thomas, and 12 examples of Thomas billing taxpayers for work while he was at home.

Thursday night, we'll detail our findings on three more troopers, and show you exactly why State Police canceled the LACE ticket-writing program, in a new installment of our State of Unrest probe.
